Welcome to my new blog! I wanted to start out talking about the differences between my two births. I used Hypnobabies childbirth hypnosis for both of them, but had completely different outlooks which influenced what happened in my births.
With my first birth, I stayed pretty quiet about my birth plans to avoid any unwelcome commentary, even around family. I believed in my heart that birth could be amazing but I didn’t think I was deserving of it. I picked a care provider that I thought aligned with what I wanted exactly so I wouldn’t have any conflict and didn’t even voice my preferences with some things to my husband or my midwife. I had the idea in my head that I’d be more disappointed if I made a detailed birth plan and left some things just up to what would happen in the moment, and thought since I was at a birth center- nothing they would do would be something I’d have a problem with. I kept my expectations low so I wouldn’t be disappointed. I learned a lot from my first birth! I was all about birth from a scientific standpoint, which is great, but that doesn’t mean you can’t also have all the magic too! Whatever that means for you, whatever you want in your heart of hearts, speak them into existence and let your provider and birth partner know.
I thought so much surrounding birth was a little too hippie for me, but even if you don’t light incense or use essential oils (I didn’t) even if you don’t hang dream catchers in your house, light candles, and steam your vagina… (to which I’d say, don’t knock it til you try it, haha!) You belong here in this wonderful, empowering, and accepting natural birth space just as you are. Don’t be surprised if your birth experience changes you and opens you up! It did for me, now I’m a spiritual gangster!
